Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour

General Tour Information

The Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour was organized in 2003 as a competitive venue for senior golfers, 55 and older, in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding area.  Our season schedule consists of nine tournaments hosted at courses in the Roanoke and New River Valleys.  The scheduled courses typically change every year or two.

Tournaments are played from the Senior Tees (5200-5600 yards), and Forward Tees (4500-4800), if qualified.  Event Handicaps are computed for the specific course and tees, and the field is flighted into three divisions to permit competition among players with similar handicaps.  Five net awards are presented in each division with the lowest net division winner being declared the Overall Low Net Winner for the tournament.  We also recognize Overall Tournament Low Gross, and we offer an optional Medalist Division which competes with gross scores only playing from the Senior Tees.

We use a modified USGA/WHS handicap system.  Only RVSGT rounds are used to compute these handicaps.  For complete  details, please refer to the HANDICAP INFO page on this website.

The Tour also offers Year End Awards, and recognizes an Overall Tour Champion for the season based on points.  Points are awarded based on finish position for each tournament.  At the end of the season, the Top 20 points leaders receive year end awards.  Only your best 8 tournaments will be counted for year end awards, meaning you can miss a tournament and still do well for the season.

Patel Himanshu, Roanoke, VA, won the 2025 Overall Points Championship. Van Renick, Jr., Roanoke, VA, was the Tour Medalist Champion for 2025.

Interested seniors can access a Tour Application by clicking the APPLICATION tab on the main Home Page.  We will
maintain a roster of 120 regular members, plus 5-10 alternates.  See the ALTERNATE PROGRAM tab for complete information, but essentially, if you intend to play only a limited number of tournaments, you may want to consider this option.

We must provide an accurate count of participants to the golf courses, so we have a few simple but extremely important rules.

  • All members are presumed to be playing the first event of the season. You must notify us if you do not intend to play.
  • If you play in a tournament, you are automatically entered into the next event. You must notify us if you do not intend to play.
  • If you do not play in a tournament, you are not entered into the next tournament and you must notify us if you intend to play.
  • Cutoff to get IN or OUT of a tournament is usually Noon Friday prior to the tournament.  Late cancels and no shows may be required to pay the full tournament fee.

Please take the time to browse the website for complete information about the Tour, including: Schedule, Weather Policy, Alternate Program, Tour Rules of Play, Handicap System, Point System, and Awards.

Thank you for your support and participation. Please note that the TOUR is also a proud supporter of Swing It to End It, Inc, a local 501(c)(3) charity supporting local Alzheimer's research through the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Enjoy the Tour, support our cause, and please give a big thanks to the hosting courses who recognize the value of having the Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour as another great option for seniors in the area.

Sincerely,
RVSGT Committee
