This page is used the the TOUR Committee to provide news and special updates. Please make it a habit to check in here on a regular basis. The 2012 Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour roster is now full at 130 members. We also have 5 alternates signed up, with room for at least 5 more. Get your application in early. A special congratulations to Hank Highfill coming back at Pulaski to become the 2011 RVSGT Overall Champion. It was a close race between Highfill and Woody Deans, ultimatley coming down to the last tournament. This is a competitive Tour, and as such, it is incumbent upon every player in the group to enforce all rules and protect the field. At a minimun you are expected to warn a player about an inappropriate action. If he continues to violate the rule, bring it to the attention of the committee immediately upon turning in the scorecard. It is strongly suggested that all Tour members, new and old, review the Tour Rules of Play before every outing. Rules will be enforced and infractions may result in assessment of penalty strokes, disqualification, or suspension from the Tour. FYI! There's another senior tour coming to the area. The Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour, which hosts amateur tournament clubs up and down the east coast, is initiating the Senior Amateur Golf Tour - Piedmont Division this spring. First tournament will be Poplar Grove on March 13th. The tour is open to all amateurs 50 for older. Flighting is by handicap, with a Champions flight for 0 - 3.9 indexes, which may appeal to better players. The tour costs is much higher than the RVSGT, but they do have some nice courses on the schedule. Before you jump in, please note that six of their tournaments conflict with the RVSGT schedule. For more information, access the website. Inclimate Weather Policy - It is the general policy of the Tour that we will proceed with tournament play, regardless of weather conditions, unless such conditions are considered extreme or dangerous by the committee, or cause the golf course to cancel or suspend play. We feel rescheduling may preclude some players from participating, thereby affecting their points accumulation for year end awards. Important Note - Effective fall of 2009, the VSGA changed Virginia to year round posting. That means, for those of you having USGA handicaps, all rounds you play from now on, unless north of Virginia, should be posted in the VSGA/GHIN system. Get more information at the VSGA website www.vsga.org By going to the Points & Scores page, you can access your points totals and scoring averages, both gross and net. You also can see your finish position for each tournament. If you have a worthy news item to include here, send it to Tommy. If it passes muster, we'll include it.
