The Roanoke Valley Senior Golf Tour kicked off it's 2011 season on Tuesday with 105 players battling 35+ miles per hour winds and cooler than normal temperatures at Ashley Plantation. (Just like last year.) We commend the 105 who stuck it out, but for the 20 or so that decided to drop, it was brutal, and you probably made a good choice.

Playing in Division 2 (handicaps 13-18), Mike Barnhill of Southwest Roanoke was the overall winner with a net score of 67.  Other winners in Division 2 were: 2nd - Tommy Firebaugh, 68; 3rd - Michael Iroler, 70; 4th - Forest Hodge, 72; 5th - Hi Nicely, 72.
 
In Division 1 (handicaps 0-12), Garry Mundy of Northwest Roanoke finished in 1st place with a net 69.  2nd - Hank Highfill, 69; 3rd - Lee Hipp, 70; 4th - Woody Deans, 71; 5th - Danny Wilmer, 72.
 
Division 3 (handicaps over 18) 1st place went to C. P. Layman of Salem, VA with a net score of 69.  Other winners 2nd - Patrick Lynch, 70; 3rd - Steve Blades, 71; 4th - Harold Orange, 71; 5th - Ralph Craig, 74.
